Of Mice and Men: Why do you think Steinbeck call this novella "Of Mice and Men"?

I think Steinbeck called his novella "Of Mice and Men" because he is trying to say that nobody can really plan the future, because it can easily be knocked down, for example, Lennie and George tried to plan out their future perfectly, however, it didn't turn out the way they wanted it to. In both stories, the novella and the poem, their dreams get altered. In this poem, it talks about how a mice doesn't always get what they want, which is what happens with Lennie and George.
Steinbeck is saying be prepared for what happens, because anything can change. Everyone is like a mouse. Things don't always go the way you want them to.
I think Steinbeck is specifically talking about the people during the great depression, considering it was written during the great depression.

My Prediction to the ending of Of Mice and Men

Lennie ran. He heard the yelling of Curley. Lennie ran in panic, and did not know where to go, he ran behind a tree, but heard Curley yell "that son of a bitch". Lennie heard the sound of a gun being shot, and he remembered, the puppies. He stood still. Hearing the sound of Curley’s furious walk, Lennie ran through the bushes, and took 2 puppies, being as careful as he could with them. He saw the way the guys killed Candy’s dog, he didn’t want any harm to those puppies. “I won’t hurt you...‘least I try not to” said Lennie.
George saw Lennie run with two puppies. “I think I see someone running ova there” while pointing in the opposite direction of where Lennie was.
“George’s gonna kill me. He’s gonna let me stay somewhere alone, without anything. He’s gonna take everything, just like he took that dead mouse from me” he said almost crying.
Lennie remembered. Hide until George comes to look for me. Lennie runs to where George specifically said to go to if he got into any trouble. And he waited...And waited....And waited.
“George is never gonna come ‘ere to look for me. He gonna sleep in the ranch, and say ‘ oh im glad Lennie isn’t here to screw anything else up’. “ Lennie said.
But when Lennie’s eyes were following George, he saw George sneak away, and saw him coming towards him.
“Hey Lennie! Run! Anywhere! But ‘member where we are now, you come ‘ere tonight in 5 hours. After everyone gets tired of looking for someone they can’t find, they’ll give up on lookin’. Got it? “
“Yea George, i’ll ‘member, i won’t forget. I promise” said Lennie.
“Now go!”
“Okay see ya in 5 hours”
As Lennie ran, George pretended to look for Lennie as he was going to kill him.
“I can’t find Lennie. He’s nowhere ‘round here” Said George.
A couple hours later, Lennie came back to the ranch, and saw no one in sight. But he heard George say: “I wanna see those puppies. Now that Lennie’s gone, and probably dead, we don’t have to worry about those little pups getting killed.”
George walked out of the ranch, and spotted Lennie. George ran towards him.
“Im sorry George, i promise i wont no do that ever ‘gain. Do i still get rabbits?”
“yea sure Lennie, don’t worry about nothin’. Now lets find a place to sleep for the night”.
As the night passed, Lennie woke up and realized he still had his two little pups.
“George, wake up!”
“What you want?”
“I took two pups, i think they’re thirsty”
“Give them water. There’s a river ova there”.
Lennie gave the two puppies, and gave them water.
Lennie went back to where they were sleeping.
Lennie put the two puppies down, and then crawled towards each other.
“Im gonna name you Lenny and George, Lenny for the bigger one, and George for the smaller one, ‘cause you remind me of me and George, two best friends”.

What are your dreams for future.

My dream is to live in New York, go to Juilliard for university, and then later get leading parts for different broadway shows that go across to different countries like United States, Canada...
My other dream is to be in movies and television shows.
Another dream is to be a professional singer who tours across different countries, and having their concerts sold out every time.
I have more than one dream, but they all relate to each other: Broadway has dance, singing, and acting. Movies have acting, sometimes dance, and sometimes singing.
Singer: Possibly has dance during music videos or concerts.
It may seem like a lot of dreams, but i'd be satisfied with any one of them.

Character Foil: The boss.

"'well he's a pretty nice fella. Gets pretty mad sometimes,'". That pretty much says it. He can be nice, but there's another side to that at times.
"'I've got my eye on you'". Because Lenny wasn't responding and George had to fill him in, he think that they might be hiding something: The boss can be threatening at times .
"'cause you can't get away with nothing. I seem wise guys before'". The boss is warning them that he is going to be watching. The boss is a little suspicious.

Character Foil: George.

I think George is a true friend: Lenny can always count of George whenever he needs it. George knows that Lenny isn't the brightest of all men, so George takes time to make sure that Lenny understands. George doesn't let him blow up and he's always there to make sure he doesn't get into trouble.

George:
" 'I ain't sure it's good water,' he said. 'looks kinda scummy". George is careful for his actions, he carefully chooses whether to drink the water or not, incase it was possibly contaminated.
"George said, 'his name's Lenny Small' ". George makes his and Lenny's decision, because he doesn't want to get in trouble for anything Lenny says or does.
" 'Oh! I ain't saying he's bright. He ain't. But I say he's a God damn worker. He can put up four hundred pound bale' " George is making Lenny look good to make sure they don't get the wrong idea. George is convincing the boss that Lenny can do anything you ask him too. He's saying this because he seems like a good friend who wouldn't back out on Lenny.

Secondary Character: Curley's Wife

"She had full, rouged lips and wide spaced eyes, heavily made up. Her fingernails were red. He hair hung in little rolled clusters, like sausages."With this description from the book, it seems that Curley's wife cares about her looks and appearance with the red nails, and the bright red lips.
" 'She looked at her fingernails' sometime Curley's in here," and " 'Oh!' She put her hands behind her back and leaned against the door frame so that her body was thrown forward". She seems like a flirt the way she presents herself. The way she picks at her nails, and leans on wall which purposely throws her body forward.

My Bedroom

My bedroom is the shape of a rectangle, has one window, two doors, and one closet. My closet door is actually a window. One doors leads to the stairs and the other bedrooms, and the second door leads to a bathroom which is connected by two rooms. My window shows me the backyard, and the deck below me. My bedroom is purple, and has a small chandelier as a light. On my walls, there are shells with trophies, medals and pictures of me dancing. On my desk, you will find over 100 hair elastics, and bobby pins.

Reflection: Section 1

1. How is section 1 the same or different from your expectation?
2. What are dreams and ambitions do George and Lenny have?
3. Do you think their dreams will be fulfilled? Why or Why Not?
4. Personal reflection on Section 1: like, dislike, characters, setting, plot, dialogue, imagery.
5. 3 questions about what you’ve read so far.
  1. Section 1 is very similar to my expectation. I thought they were going to look for a job, and have troubles finding one, which is what happened, they found somewhere to sleep for the night, and planned to find a job the next morning.
  2. George and Lenny’s dream is to live in a place where they can have anything they want, for example, colorful rabbits, chickens....
  3. I think their dreams will partly be fulfilled. Maybe they might have rabbits and other animals, but i’m no so sure they will get green and red rabbits. Also another thing that George wants is an easy life, I think that life will get better and better, once they get back on their feet.
  4. I like the dialogue, its different than what i’ve read before, and it makes it interesting for when we read the novella in class, gives a chance for people to act characters. I also enjoy the description for example the setting, John Steinbeck does a good job describing it which makes it easy to follow, and draws a detailed picture in your head. I think i’m going to end up enjoying this book, because it has so far grabbed my attention.
    1. Why does Lenny have a mind of a child? Is it because he wasn’t educated, or because he has a disability?
    2. What happened to their family? are they just 2 friends?
    3. Why is mice so important to Lenny? Is it because he wants something to entertain him when they are walking from place to place?

Of Mice and Men: Expectations.

Im assuming that in Of Mice and Men, there will be the two men, which we already know about, and they will have trouble finding jobs and living with food and water to eat. This is the time of the Great Depression. In the end, I'm guessing that they will eventually find a suitable way of living. Im assuming they will have difficulties finding jobs. I've already read the back, so I do know that one of two of the men has a mind of a young child, so i'm guessing they will get into trouble from trying to survive.

Great Depression.

There are 5 main causes of the Great Depression: the stock market crashed in 1929, bank failures, people stopped spending money, taxes on imported goods, and drought.
On october 29, 1929, the stock market crashed, and the stockholders lost more than 40,000,000,000$. When the banks failed, they were not insured, and people lost all of their savings. Because people didn’t have any money, they stopped buying things, which made the situation worse. In an effort to boost the economy, the American government put high taxes on imported goods; this backfired, because European countries stopped buying American products. To top all this off, a massive drought in the Mississippi Valley cause a food shortage and many famers lost their farms.
