Reflection: Section 1

1. How is section 1 the same or different from your expectation?
2. What are dreams and ambitions do George and Lenny have?
3. Do you think their dreams will be fulfilled? Why or Why Not?
4. Personal reflection on Section 1: like, dislike, characters, setting, plot, dialogue, imagery.
5. 3 questions about what you’ve read so far.
  1. Section 1 is very similar to my expectation. I thought they were going to look for a job, and have troubles finding one, which is what happened, they found somewhere to sleep for the night, and planned to find a job the next morning.
  2. George and Lenny’s dream is to live in a place where they can have anything they want, for example, colorful rabbits, chickens....
  3. I think their dreams will partly be fulfilled. Maybe they might have rabbits and other animals, but i’m no so sure they will get green and red rabbits. Also another thing that George wants is an easy life, I think that life will get better and better, once they get back on their feet.
  4. I like the dialogue, its different than what i’ve read before, and it makes it interesting for when we read the novella in class, gives a chance for people to act characters. I also enjoy the description for example the setting, John Steinbeck does a good job describing it which makes it easy to follow, and draws a detailed picture in your head. I think i’m going to end up enjoying this book, because it has so far grabbed my attention.
    1. Why does Lenny have a mind of a child? Is it because he wasn’t educated, or because he has a disability?
    2. What happened to their family? are they just 2 friends?
    3. Why is mice so important to Lenny? Is it because he wants something to entertain him when they are walking from place to place?

  1. Brittany, good job on your blog. Did you read the book before? Because your prediction and what really happened seems really similar. I agree with you about their dreams coming true- I think they will partially come true. I also like the dialogue. The slag makes it fun to read/ say, and your accent is really good too! I think this book is good so far, but uneventful so it hasn't quite caught my attention yet.

    Regarding your questions:
    1. I think Lennie has either a mental disability or had some sort in trauma when he was young.
    2. I think they are cousins, or really good friends that have know each other for along time. I think this because their relationship is more like a big brother- little brother relationship.
    3. I think mice symbolize something, but I don't know what. Mice may have a connection to Lennie's childhood and the trauma and/ or mental disability. I had the same question too.

  2. Good reflections Brittany, although a little brief. I would like to know more about your what you think about the book. It's nice to see that you and Karina have similar questions. You're both on the same page it seems.
